My background is in computer science working as an engineer for 12 years now. I’ve spent roughly the last 5 years in blockchain tech, where I have worked in various fields, from mining projects to crypto banking and fintech.
Our other co-founder and friend from London, Sanjay, introduced me to the idea of Kitsumon and I fell in love with the concept and decided to come on board
Please share some information about Kitsumon — where did the idea come from and what’s the main mission of the Kitsumon project?

When we saw the potential of CryptoKitties and its ability to create a ‘new’ collectable creature that would be ownable by an individual, we were immediately excited. Was this the next Tamagotchi? Almost, but you didn’t need to feed it and it didn’t really do anything. The potential was already there — it just needed to be taken to the next level.
The idea was to have a pet creature that was unique, cute yet cool, that also needed to be looked after and played with. The concept of making them various types of cute birds that progress from chicks to adults emerged and an interactive way to feed them came along with it. All it needed was something fun to do with them, and at the start, we thought about racing. This idea then grew over the years and evolved, birds changed into foxes, racing changed to DOTA-style battling, and professions
expanded out to make it a truly lifelike gaming experience. Kitsumon was thus born.
Can you tell us more about Kitsumon’s game concept and features?
James
So Kitsumon is an online multiplayer metaverse, about collecting, breeding and battling with creatures called Kitsu
These Kitsu can be used in our Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA); this is just one of the features.
We also have an open world roaming play to earn gameplay setup where users are able to acquire land and use it to create in-game resources that can be bought and sold in our in-game marketplaces
These in-game items can be used to affect game mechanics such as breeding timers, for example, and one of the first features will be breeding, thanks to which you will be able to breed Kitsu together to create completely customized hybrids, each with different abilities.
There is some very cool tech behind this, as Kitsumon provides not only the DNA smart contracts but probably the first fully automated 3d rendering pipeline of the industry, using data from our breeding contracts to be able to stitch together endless possibilities of kitsumon hybrids.

What sets Kitsumon apart from other projects? Is there anything that gives you a competitive advantage?

Other games in the industry like Axie and CryptoKitties have seen massive success, but there is an issue of keeping users interested in the game in the long term that has not currently been met in our eyes.
Kitsumon aims to offer a far broader spectrum of activities that users can engage in with their Kitsu NFTs, to ensure that players will have a great time with the game even beyond the NFT and cryptocurrency aspects that it offers
We are aiming to attract not just blockchain gamers, but to spearhead this entire industry toward the general gaming market as well.
Have there been any new additions to the Kitsumon team?

Yes, there have been several new additions to the team, as well as some restructuring, as you can imagine we really want to raise awareness of everything related to the Kitsumon project and deliver great experiences to our audience as well as our investors.
We have Simon on board now to coordinate all the Marketing alongside myself and the rest of the team, and we have recently added some new faces to our advisory board as well as to the creative teams, to ramp up some exciting upcoming Kitsu developments.

Yep, we have expanded our social and marketing team, as well as working with an external marketing agency, with some additional DevOps help, who are making sure the marketplace infrastructure is ready for the public sale.

About your game itself — as it is Play-to-Earn, how will players be able to earn in Kitsumon?
James
So there will be many mechanisms implemented to earn through the Kitsumon game:
First will be through breeding, so the NFT eggs being sold aren’t useless PFP NFTs; these will be your in-game characters once the eggs hatch. You will be able to use the various Kitsu to breed.
You as a breeder, especially if you have a rare Kitsu, will have a unique opportunity to earn from our unique “bloodlines contract” which means your offspring from breeding will continue to return you royalties from future sales and the sales of its future offspring, so acquiring rare Kitsu with good genetics in the early stages is important, since with the game progressing, especially in the MOBA aspects of the project, the traits associated with the bred Kitsu will affect how they perform in the battle arena.
The second part is our open-world metaverse, people will be able to acquire land in this metaverse, and use that land to dedicate to what we call “professions” so, for example, you may acquire a plot of land dedicate 1/3 to farming crops, 1/3 to mining gems, 1/3 to fishing.
This land will produce resources and depending on the other items you are equipped with will also affect the chances of rarer items being spawned within the world, so imagine you fish with a golden rod in your land compared to a wooden one, you might get a bigger and rarer fish, you can then sell these items to other people playing professions such as a chef, that may dedicate some of their lands to a “restaurant” where they can buy items such as fish and vegetables produced from farmers, and assemble them into NFT recipes, that can be sold for example to Kitsu breeders and this in return may decrease their breeding times, or give them increased abilities in battle.

What use cases will the $KMC token have? And do you plan on utilizing any additional tokens for your game?
Tobias Fuchs
The $KMC token will be utilized for many aspects of the game’s economy, from future Kitsu Egg sales, shop purchases for utility items, NFT asset trading on our marketplace, and more. It is hosted on Polygon’s MATIC network to ensure low transaction fees for a smooth user experience.
We will be having one other currency as well called KANDY, which is actually off-chain and used purely inside the Kitsumon world. It will be purchasable with $KMC and also be earnable as a reward for in-game activities. KANDY will act as a buffer between the volatility of traded tokens and the in-game store, keeping prices stable. It will be useful for purchasing daily power-ups, subscriptions, items and more.

We will also shortly be launching some NFT mining and Liquidity Mining programs that will allow you to use your $KMC to earn Kitsu NFTs and items as well as $KMC rewards. More information will be announced on this post INO.
Everyone here is very excited about the Kitsumon INO. Could you share some details on what exactly people will get from their Blind Boxes and how it will all work?
James
So we are working with multiple INO platforms and marketplaces that are set to prepare our presale in the next month.
They usually fall on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday
All pre-sales will be a Mystery Box system, $175 is the buy it now price, this includes one Kitsu and one Infinity potion, that you will be required to use once breeding is activated to actually breed the Kitsumon.
After the launchpads and marketplaces, we are holding two days where people who have staked $KMC in our pools have the chance again to buy mystery boxes from the Kitsumon main page
Once all the pre-sale is complete, we will move directly onto the public sale which will be on the Kitsumon marketplace
The public sale will last two weeks, there are 3220 eggs in the public sale, and we will randomly list 230 eggs per day (fully revealed) where people can bid on them.
The public sale auctions will be English auctions and payment in $KMC only
Our R1/2 staking pools are full and in total, we locked around 69% of the circulating supply of $KMC between 3 and 6 months.

After the INO concludes, what will be the next exciting thing coming up for you?

Aside from our INO that we are of course super excited about, the next amazing news coming up soon is definitely the Breeding feature, which will be playable in late Q1!
Shortly after that, we will also be launching our first few Professions, namely Fishing and Cooking to name a few.

James
Use cases of $KMC are it can be used to buy in-game items for the marketplace, using $KMC in the marketplace will result in various discounts, you will also be able to use your $KMC to stake to earn APY or NFTs or acquire land in the Kitsumon Metaverse soon.

Yes, we are planning to promote Kitsumon worldwide and we already have several international groups on Telegram and Discord for people to talk in their native language. We aim to make Kitsumon available in a vast amount of languages so everyone can enjoy some cute Kitsus

Can you tell us about your team members? Are they qualified and professional in their fields? What are the recruiting qualifications for team members for your extraordinary project?
James
On the technological side, we have Sanjay and me, and we both have been working as professional developers for several years. We previously built L1 blockchain protocols, then moved into financial services and crypto banking.
Some of the previous projects I worked on that successfully launched are Modeapp which is listed on the London stock exchange and XDefi which recently launched its token and has some amazing backers.
One of the main things we look for in team members is dedication and enthusiasm for crypto. If they’re enthusiastic they will pull out all stops to make the project a reality.

We have a great team behind the project and will be ramping up our marketing efforts throughout the year, this coupled with the development of the game itself and our team, we will be striving to take the MOBA market by storm and encourage all aspects of gaming levels

Revenue is an important aspect for all projects to survive and maintain the project/company. How have you been able to build a complete project and what is the way to generate profit/revenue of the token? What is the income model?
James
Revenue is generated from our marketplace and the sale of Kitsu in the breeding program, as we collect a small fee on the various sales.

The Play-2-Earn model has really contributed to the massive adoption of blockchain-based games. However, one of the negative sides of most P2E games is that they are designed to be too complex for a non-crypto player to navigate and understand. So what should gamers be expecting to see on #KITSUMON? Is it another complex game with virtually no fun or something filled with entertainment that will make them stay glued to their screen?

Our game is intended to be suitable for mainstream gamers, similarly to normal mainstream mobile/pc games, but while also implementing the good sides of P2E and crypto. While our game will at first be more focused on the Crypto Gamers, we plan to quickly expand into the mainstream and make our game playable completely for free without the need to buy an NFT to participate. In this way, we plan to bring in a mainstream gaming audience and really grow beyond anything that a normal crypto game could ever achieve

Only getting users, holders etc is not everything. In my opinion, a project needs to deal with solving a real-world issue or problem. What is the problem that your project primarily focuses on?
James
We get this question in many forms, my answer is simple, we’re not trying to solve problems, we’re trying to build a fun and engaging game people want to play.
We’re not building a protocol to solve cross-chain liquidity swaps for example

When Pokemon launched, there wasn’t a problem with Gameboy gaming they were trying to solve, they created something that people have loved and kept going back to from childhood to adults and keep playing, and that’s what we aspire to be like.

We have already partnered with a big marketing agency and we’re also building a huge influencer network ourselves, Simon is working hard on that. As we grow bigger, I’m sure we will begin to work together with bigger KOLs to reach deeper into the mainstream.

NFTs don’t just have to be used for art, all an NFT really is, is a digital representation of something non-fungible so an NFT could in the future represent ownership of a house or a car in the real world, so in my opinion, NFTs should be taken very seriously on what other use cases they offer outside the art world

Almost 80% of investors have just focused on the price of a token in the short term instead of understanding the real value of the project. Can you tell us the motivations and benefits for investors to hold your token in the long term?
James
I think the success of the staking pools show that the majority of our token holders are highly interested in the NFTs which is why so much $KMC has been staked in return for the NFT allocation.

I doubt it will at the moment lol but who knows what the future may hold. Polygon has the most advantages for us right now. But we are always willing to consider other networks if Polygon turns out to be suboptimal for our project.

I don’t think we need to move to a different underlying network unless there are serious issues with Polygon, but we have confidence in their team and their roadmap and are in direct contact with them.

Kitsumon will be playable on PC, Browser, and Mobile. I’m not sure if Playstation/Xbox is possible for a crypto game at the moment, but if it is then I’m sure we will try to explore this direction.

You will be able to level up your Kitsu through lots of in-game activities and mainly also through playing in the MOBA game mode once it’s out. Levelling up your Kitsu will unlock new abilities and improve its stats, making it more powerful in the MOBA game mode and making its professions better. It will give you better performance, yes, and in the case of professions, this can lead to better yields from activities like farming, fishing etc. which can help you make more profit.
